About RMC
History of Ramakrishna Medical Centre

It was a humble beginning when Late Dr. T.K. Thirunavukkarasu and Dr. S. Ponnammal opened Ramakrishna Nursing Home to exclusively cater to the fields of Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
It was inaugurated by the great Indian social activist E.V.R. Periyar.
Dr. T.K. Thirunavukkarasu was one of the most renowned Civil Surgeons of his time, honored with an FACS by the American College of Surgeons, and was known for his sincerity and dedication.
Dr. Ponnammal was the first doctor in Trichy to hold a postgraduate degree in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She conducted countless deliveries and earned enormous love and affection from her patients for her skill and care.
RMC was one of the pioneering hospitals of that period, built with a fully functional operation theatre, labour room, 15 inpatient beds, triage, etc.
The seed planted in 1991 has grown into a tree today. We are now in the 50th year of RMC—a result of the hard work and dedication of Dr. T.K. Thirunavukkarasu and Dr. S. Ponnammal.
In 1991, it became a well-constructed 28-bedded hospital with a well-established Cardiac Care Unit, headed by Dr. Chenniappan.
He has saved many lives and continues to serve society to this day.
In 1994, the Ophthalmology Unit was started by Dr. Devaki Senthil Kumar, with a separate Ophthalmology Theatre and outpatient unit.
Dr. Devaki was known for her excellent operating skills and helped many underprivileged patients receive free treatment by conducting camps.
In 1995, Pediatric and Neonatal services were started under the guidance of Dr. Suresh Chellaiah.
Pharmacy: Exclusive pharmacy services were started by Mr. Kannan, who has been a pillar of support to this day, ensuring that patients receive all necessary medicines in-house.
In 2003, the IUI Facility was incorporated, and specialized treatments for infertile couples were started.
“Ramakrishna Nursing Home” became Ramakrishna Medical Centre LLP with 40 beds, marking a new chapter of modern, patient-focused care.
